This week’s useful watch news is less about hype and more about practical design choices. The common thread is serviceability: better water resistance, more purpose-built movements, clearer power reserve information and the continuing split between standard calibres and brand-specific engineering.
Ressence moves to a movement built for its display
Monochrome reported on the Ressence Type 11, the first Ressence watch built around its own RW-01 movement, designed by Ressence and produced by Concepto. Earlier Ressence models used heavily modified ETA base movements to drive the brand’s ROCS display. The new calibre is designed around that load from the start, with twin barrels, a 60 hour power reserve and a simplified caseback winding lever.
For repairers, the important point is the trade-off. Purpose-built architecture can solve real user problems, especially where a display module asks more of the movement than normal hands would. It can also make future service support more dependent on the brand and its movement partner. Serious hobbyists should see this as a reminder that novelty is not only visual. It changes how a watch will be diagnosed, adjusted and supported over time.

Hanhart keeps the Aquasphere on familiar service ground
The new Hanhart Aquasphere Matte Black keeps the model’s practical dive-watch spec, including a 42 mm steel case, screw-down crown, ceramic bezel, helium escape valve and 300 m water resistance. The movement is listed as either a Sellita SW200-1 or Soprod P024 depending on production batch, both ETA 2824 alternatives, regulated by Hanhart to its stated in-house standard.
That matters because standard architecture still has a place. A watch can be technically serious without forcing every job into a proprietary parts path. Seiko upgrades the Prospex diver GMT around everyday workshop details
Seiko’s latest Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT references HBC001 and HBC002 bring the line into a more complete form, with 300 m water resistance and a six-step tool-free clasp adjustment. Inside is the 6R54 automatic calibre, with a caller-style GMT hand, hacking seconds and a 72 hour power reserve.
For a workshop, the practical angle is that Seiko is continuing to push long-reserve mechanical GMT watches into a price range where they will eventually appear on more benches. The GMT function means there is another user-adjusted indication to check after service or troubleshooting. The stronger water resistance and adjustable clasp are also useful reminders that owners judge a service not only by timekeeping, but by whether the watch still feels secure, sealed and ready for daily use.

Hamilton puts power reserve back on a hand-wound field watch
Hamilton has added green and blue dials to the Khaki Field Power Reserve 40 mm line. The watch uses the H-23, an ETA-developed hand-wound movement based on the Powermatic 80 family, with an 80 hour reserve, a power reserve display and a Nivachron balance spring.
This is a simple but useful trend for owners and repairers. A power reserve display can make winding habits visible, which helps separate a genuine running issue from a watch that has simply not been wound enough. The anti-magnetic balance spring is also part of a broader shift toward making everyday mechanical watches more tolerant of modern environments, although magnetism should still be checked when a watch suddenly runs fast or erratically.

The repair takeaway
The week’s releases show two paths at once. Some brands are making movements more specific to the watch they power, while others are leaning on proven movement families and improving the case, clasp and water resistance around them. Both approaches can make a better watch, but they lead to different service questions. Before opening any modern piece, identify the calibre, check the sealing requirements, note any special winding or setting system and think about whether parts support is standard, brand-controlled or somewhere in between.
